KIHASA adopts and proclaims the New Human Rights Management Charter at Its 55th anniversary ceremony

  • President Shin Youngseok: “Human rights management is a fundamental principle that should be adhered to in order to ensure human dignity and value in a workplace, especially for us, a research institute in the fields of health and welfare. We will do our utmost to cultivate an organizational culture that fully respects human rights.”

  • The newly proclaimed Charter adds provisions for emerging issues in human rights, including safety guidelines, environmental protection, respect for the human rights of stakeholders, protection of personal data, and the prevention of workplace bullying and sexual harassment. These new provisions will be incorporated into the institution’s management alongside the previous ones.

On Monday, July 7, KIHASA held a ceremony in the Sejong Hall (5F) to celebrate its 55th anniversary. The event was attended by all of KIHASA’s management and staff. During the ceremony, the institute also proclaimed its newly updated Human Rights Management Charter.

The newly proclaimed Human Rights Management Charter supplements the previous commitments―which included compliance with international and domestic human rights norms, the prohibition of discrimination and the guarantee of freedom of association and collective bargaining―with new provisions. These new provisions include ensuring safety and environmental protection, respecting stakeholders human rights, protecting personal data, and preventing workplace bullying and sexual harassment.

President Shin said, Human rights management should not remain a mere slogan at an institute like ours, which leads the nation’s health and welfare sectors. It must be internalized as a fundamental principle throughout all our research processes and organizational management.” He continued, “With the proclamation of this new Human Rights Management Charter, we reaffirm our commitment to firmly establishing a culture at KIHASA that prioritizes human dignity and rights.”

As a result of its efforts to promote respect for human rights in its management, such as revising internal regulations and systems, KIHASA has earned top ratings for two consecutive years in the ethical management category of the NRC evaluation. Demonstrating its continued commitment to human rights management, KIHASA plans to carry out human rights impact assessments, provide remedies for any violations, and deliver education programs.
