Choi:
Professor Jeon, what is your view of the current care crisis?
Jeon:
What I see as the care crisis is a gap in care services. It is usually the elderly and people with disabilities who require a lot of care. However, in many cases, insufficient care services and programs for these groups, or a lack of providers, have prevented them from getting adequate access to the care they need. These people are therefore at the center of the care crisis.
In addition, problems caused by the breakdown of social ties, such as social isolation and withdrawal, have recently become more prominent. This suggests that it is not only the elderly and disabled but also young adults and middle-aged people who are increasingly affected by social isolation and reclusion.
Unfortunately, there is a severe lack of care services tailored to their needs. Because of these kinds of institutional failings, I am concerned that the care crisis will continue to worsen for some time to come.
