Title: One in Five Citizens Lives Alone
Transcript
This is a video report titled "5060 Also Live Alone", which looks at changes in family structures among middle-aged and older adults.
Did you know that the number of one-person households in our country has surpassed 10 million? With a population of around 50 million, this means that one in every five South Koreans lives alone.
What’s even more surprising is that the growth rate of one-person households is higher among people in their 50s and 60s than among those under 40. This suggests that the growth of one-person households, once confined to middle-aged people, is now rapidly extending to older generations, becoming a "new normal."
However, the current family and household policies of the central and local governments are mostly centered around multi-person households. Even the few policies that exist for one-person households primarily target economically vulnerable groups.
This video report begins by recognizing these problems.
