Voiceover:
Our research revealed a significant gap in the implementation of paid leave, sick leave, employment insurance and industrial accident insurance between regular and non-regular workers, as well as between companies with more than 300 employees and those with fewer than 30. So, what kind of society could truly be called one where it’s “okay to rest”?
Kim:
In South Korea, many workers don’t have the right to take time off when they are sick. As a result, they often come to work unwell or leave their jobs due to illness. Sickness benefits refer to cash payments - simply put, money - that can be provided under national law to allow sick workers to remain employed without having to leave their jobs. If implemented, these benefits would provide a basis for workers to take necessary time off while still sustaining their livelihoods, as they would receive income to cover lost wages during their sick leave.
